We like to shine a light on the most inspiring projects of the last year with the 2023 Magnolia Experience Award. We’ve gone through an arduous process of determining the winners through an internal jury with members from Magnolia Partner managers, our Marketing and Services departments and our technical account executives.
We closely watched several contestants across four categories, but these ones prevailed.

Cloud Project of the Year: adesso and interactive tools collaborating for Heraeus
Our first standing ovation goes to adesso and interactive tools for their sensational performance in orchestrating Heraeus’ cutting-edge website.
adesso, the unstoppable juggernaut of IT services in the DACH region, leads a revolution that reverberates across industries and public domains. Armed with a laser-focused mastery of core business processes, their team wields industry-specific wisdom and state-of-the-art technology like virtuoso musicians.
Their secret sauce? A three-pronged strategy that combines the know-how of their brilliant minds, technology prowess that transcends manufacturers, and an unwavering commitment to the alchemy of reliable backend software implementation.
In the arena of fiercely competitive sectors such as banking, healthcare, media, and even the heart-pounding world of lotteries, adesso has emerged as the conductor of choice for tailor-made IT solutions. With a storied history of serving illustrious brands like Commerzbank, Union Investment, Mercedes Benz, and Bosch, their portfolio gives you the who-is-who of online success.
As a globally leading family-owned technology company, the Heraeus Group is dedicated to transforming businesses to achieve competitive advantages. To achieve this, they combine their material expertise with cutting-edge technological knowledge, allowing their experts to perform in-depth analyses of your market and business processes before creating a customized solution.
For Heraeus’ new site, the two partners built a GitLab-hosted platform, which required some truly creative approaches to their collaboration. adesso worked on the site backend and interactive tools on the frontend. When you’re serving one of the 10 largest family-owned companies in Germany, a global rollout requires a lot of coordination and streamlined communication between everyone involved.
adesso and interactive tools leveraged the full range of Magnolia products, enabling every partner to focus on their specialties, which allowed the site to go live globally within eight months. From the content delivery network to the frontend and their Solr search module, Heraeus’ entire content management and hosting will run on Magnolia’s infrastructure, and we couldn’t be happier with the results they’re seeing.
Composable Commerce Champion: TRIMM’s B2B commerce platform
The team at TRIMM is not just making the digital world simpler; they’re making it more beautiful as well. If you know anything about design, you’re aware that minimalism doesn’t translate to less work but obsessive optimization. With over 110 passionate specialists on board, they’re dedicated to creating online campaigns, internet applications, and platforms that engage and inspire users around the world.
Their team is all about crafting well-designed and creative applications, including sites, shops, and portals that help clients achieve their business goals. But they certainly don’t rest on their laurels and focus on design alone. They’ve been ISO 27001-certified since 2021, ensuring high security standards with domestic and international clients such as Mitsubishi Chemical Group, Nexperia, or Signify.
As a full-service internet agency, they’ve been crafting online B2B content for over 25 years, and they pulled off two masterpieces in their work with Grolsch and Mitsubishi Chemicals Advanced Materials (MCAM).
With Grolsch and all its catering partners, TRIMM developed applications allowing the beer supplier’s editors to build forms and easily edit product data from within the web service and email templates. Similarly, they helped MCAM to streamline their customer experience journey through content on their new customer platform.
We found their modern and scalable concept for B2B commerce platforms nothing but inspiring, especially considering they’re one of our first partners to establish the concept within a new market. While B2C keeps influencing practices in B2B, the latter still involves more complicated sales processes. Thanks to their deep B2B knowledge, TRIMM was able to respect those unique requirements time and time again. For integrating Magnolia solutions besides other business systems, this prize is more than deserved.

Technical Trendsetter: Merkle’s SFCC Accelerator

We’re excited to see Merkle’s groundbreaking global accelerator for Salesforce Commerce Cloud unveiled. This game-changing tool will empower brands to swiftly adopt a cutting-edge composable API-first architecture. By seamlessly integrating with Contentful and Magnolia, the accelerator revolutionizes the way businesses connect Salesforce Commerce Cloud with other enterprise content management platforms.
In doing so, it will assist businesses in creating exceptional online shopping experiences, resulting in time and cost savings. Merkle’s accelerator is specifically designed to aid brands in developing engaging shopping experiences on a global scale. Their team already demonstrated their headless content management capabilities to a raging audience at Dreamforce 2023.
For clients like Emmi and Visana, Merkle took the lead during conception and implementation, and we’re excited to see where they’ll take our shared clients next.
